Beginning in Kindergarten, students will be introduced to an art vocabulary that will enable them to develop the skills necessary to describe various artworks. Students will learn how to use lines, shapes and color to convey meaning. They will explore a variety of subject matters and become keenly aware of their cultural and environmental influences. As students rise in grade level, their knowledge of the Elements of Art and Principles of Design will expand as well as their ability to plan, execute and reflect on their own art making process using multiply mediums including: watercolors, paints, pastels, clay, and multi-media sculpture and technology. Brief lessons on art history and art criticism round out their visual arts education. Each grade meets for Art class one time per week.
