Holy Redeemer School is proud to announce that Mrs. Elizabeth Scribner is the recipient of the Archdiocese of Washington's Golden Apple/Teacher of the Year award for 2017! Mrs. Scribner is one of just ten teachers selected from all of the teachers in the archdiocese.
In her 12th year as a teacher at Holy Redeemer School, Mrs. Scribner is the fourth, sixth, seventh and eighth grade Religion Teacher, sixth grade Literature teacher and the Testing Coordinator. Mrs. Scribner is also part of the Confirmation team and a Eucharistic Minister of the Holy Communion.
Mrs. Scribner truly lives out her faith, incorporating the Word of God into all aspects of her daily life. As an alumni wrote, "Mrs. Scribner would present the words and actions of Jesus in a way that we understood by drawing comparisons that affected us as middle schoolers. She elegantly conveyed Christ's divine wisdom and how he wants us to live."
A teacher and parent at the school credits Mrs. Scribner with helping so many of our students convert to Catholicism. "Our son believes without a doubt that Mrs. Scribner was the catalyst for his classmate becoming Catholic."
Mrs. Bovich said, "The Holy Redeemer community has a great respect for Mrs. Scribner, not only for her knowledge, but also for her generous nature. She cares for her students, her fellow teachers, and parents, with an attentive ear and a kind heart. She values the dignity of all students, recognizes their individual differences, and promotes social justice and other Gospel values as an integral part of her character."
Congratulations, Mrs. Scribner, and well deserved!
Mrs. Scribner is in good company as the 2017 Golden Apple recipient. Ms. Jennifer Eller was the Archdiocese of Washington Teacher of the Week in February, Mrs. Maria Bovich was named the 2016 Distinguished Principal of the Year and the 2016 National Catholic Educational Association's Lead, Learn Proclaim award recipient, and Mrs. Christina Harrington was the 2016 Golden Apple recipient.
