Congratulations to our 14U Varsity Softball team which finished 2nd in the CYO Mid-Atlantic tournament this weekend. After a 5-1 regular season, our Hawks beat St. Elizabeth and Holy Trinity before falling to St. Bernadette in the Championship Game. We are so proud of all their accomplishments this season!
Dear Holy Redeemer Parish and School family, I am happy to announce Mrs. Katrina Fernandez as the new principal of Holy Redeemer School. We warmly welcome her as she officially begins July 1, 2019. Mrs. Katrina Fernandez comes to us with a strong background of excellence in education. She received her Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education from University of Miami and her Masters in Educational Leadership from the University of Dayton. She has been a teacher, a Director of Admissions, a Vice Principal, and is currently serving as a Principal of another Archdiocese of Washington school. Mrs. Fernandez resides locally with her family. Mrs. Fernandez has a zeal for Catholic education and a love for students. Her leadership at her previous school was impactful in the areas of improved test scores and increased enrollment. She is excited to begin her tenure at Holy Redeemer and to use her background and knowledge to help advance our Latino initiatives and our special education program, as well as our marketing and development campaign. Mrs. Fernandez has demonstrated qualities that we believe will be best for our students and families moving forward, and that will continue to unite the school and parish in a faith-filled way. We are all grateful for Maria Bovich and her 11 years of dedicated service to the children of this school and their families. She enters retirement with the love and respect of this parish community. I am also personally grateful for our Search Committee and our Catholic School's Office who worked so well together with me to select our next principal. Katrina is fortunate to step into such a wonderful school community and carry on the tradition of "Excellence in Education, with the Power of Faith." Fraternally Yours In Christ, Fr. Mark L. Smith
Alyssa Burgos, a Holy Redeemer eighth grade student, earned 1st place at the Prince George’s County Spelling Bee on Friday, March 15, 2019. Alyssa Burgos has been Holy Redeemer School’s reigning champion for three years running, and placed second at last year’s county spelling bee. After 15 very close rounds that began with 26 students, she won the championship with the word “cilia.” Her family and friends are incredibly proud of her great accomplishment, and excited for her next challenge. Alyssa went on to compete in the Scripp’s National Spelling Bee this past May.
