All students demonstrated age appropriate coding skills, and participated in the Annual International Coding Week.
All students mastered newly developed interactive technology software and applications in the fall semester, which helped smooth our transition to distance-learning in March. Flipgrid, Kahoot, and Plickers are a few examples of these technologies.
All students experienced our Virtual Reality kits, taking “field trips” to Spain, Greece, Brazil, and more.
The Technology Department helps students master computing skills they will use in high school and beyond, and introduces them to new technologies that help them reach their learning potential.
Pre-K through Fifth Graders have small-group technology class once a week. These classes maximize each student’s hands-on experience and individual attention.
In Sixth through Eighth Grades technology instruction is integrated in the larger curriculum. Individual subject teachers reserve the technology lab to enable students to do research, type, and print projects and papers.
At all levels, the technology teacher “pushes into” classes to help facilitate the use of new educational technologies, and offers quarterly professional development sessions to help teachers familiarize themselves with new technology tools. Holy Redeemer currently has two classroom sets of iPads, a technology lab with 35 Windows desktop computers, and a set of 20 Virtual Reality kits. Each of these resources is available for classroom teachers to reserve and coordinate suitable lesson plans with the technology teacher.
“Technology will not replace great teachers, but technology in the hands of great teachers can be transformational.” –George Couros
